Training for Hoisting Exam
On March 27, 2017, the DPS merged with the Division of Professional Licensure (DPL) and was renamed the Office of Public Safety and Inspections (OPSI). The DPL oversees 28 boards of registration and the Office of Occupational Schools, which licenses and regulates more than 387,000 individuals, businesses and schools to practice in excess of 50 trades and professions in Massachusetts. Under the direction of Commissioner Charles Borstel, OPSI will continue its efforts to promote public safety through regulation and licensing
Boiler & Pressure Vessel Program/Licenses
The primary function of the Boiler and Pressure Vessel program is to manage the registration and inspection of all non-residential boilers and pressure vessels within the Commonwealth. This includes those units required by M.G.L Chapter 146 for private and public facilities such as power plants, hospitals, nursing homes, and schools. This program administers the professional trade licenses for steam firemen and engineers (power plant operators), boiler and pressure vessel inspectors and oil burner technicians, and all prerequisite examinations. In the event of a boiler or pressure vessel incident or accident, inspectors will investigate to determine the cause, and prosecute violators of the law within their jurisdiction.
